Gandhi Legacy Tour — Satyagraha Tours of South Africa

On October 17, 2026, we join in celebrating the 19th anniversary of Uthando South Africa, honoring nearly two decades of extraordinary work rooted in love, compassion, human dignity, and community service.

Through our Gandhi Legacy Tour — Satyagraha Tours of South Africa in 2014, 2015, and 2018, we had the privilege of connecting with remarkable people and community initiatives through Uthando and its founder, James Fernie. These encounters offered living expressions of the values Mahatma Gandhi encouraged us to cultivate: love, respect, understanding, appreciation, and acceptance.

From the joyful voices of the Thokozany Youth Choir and the spirited elders of Mathisbathande Oldies to the nurturing environment of Kiddies EduCare and the dedicated hands cultivating the We Are Trying Garden, each visit revealed the extraordinary ways love takes root in everyday life.

Our journeys also brought us into connection with Zama Dance School, the Amy Foundation South Africa, and the Institute for Indigenous Arts and Development (IMAD), where creativity, education, cultural expression, and community engagement offered further opportunities for meaningful human connection.

What made these visits memorable was not simply the work being accomplished, but the people behind it , their warmth, generosity, determination, and willingness to share their lives and aspirations with visitors from across the world.

Uthando means love, and throughout these journeys, we witnessed that love expressed through relationships, opportunities, encouragement, and compassionate action.

As we revisit these cherished photographs from 2014, 2015, and 2018, we celebrate the friendships formed, the communities encountered, and the shared humanity that continues to connect us across continents.

Happy 19th Anniversary, Uthando South Africa!

With heartfelt appreciation to James Fernie, the Uthando team, and the many remarkable individuals and organizations whose dedication continues to make a difference.

May the seeds of love planted throughout these nineteen years continue to blossom, nourishing lives, strengthening communities, and inspiring generations to come.

With love and appreciation,
