Delhi, the capital of India, has a fascinating history and a stimulating present. It always been the center seat for ruling empires over the centuries, and hence finds itself teeming with art and rich culture, albeit in ruins and forgotten roads.
It was here, that the Mahatma was assassinated one January evening. This will therefore be an important day for the tour, because we will visit the place where Gandhi uttered his last words ‘he ram..’.
After breakfast, we will go to Rajghat, a memorial erected to immortalize the Mahatma on his cremation grounds. People often gather here in quiet prayer, feeling a sacred tranquility take over.
We will also visit the National Gandhi Museum where several of Gandhi’s belongings have been preserved.
Next on the list is Birla House. Gandhi lived here from 9 September 1947 to 30 January 1948. Thus, the hallowed house treasures many memories of the last 144 days of his life.
On his way to the prayer grounds on the evening of January 30, 1948, Gandhi came face to face with Nathuram Godse, who fired three shots at him, and robbed the nation of Bapu. This place is now known as Gandhi Smriti. Afterwards, we will head to dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.
